Artist bio: Cheryl Haigler is fascinated by the process of creativity and how it connects us to the world around us. Haigler began drawing and painting in early childhood. Her mother describes her as “An artist from the womb”. While pregnant with Haigler, her mother developed an uncontrollable urge to paint. After Haigler was born, her mother’s desire to paint vanished just as suddenly as it appeared. As a self-taught artist; she simply paints subjects she can relate to. Her art can be described as figurative, abstract with an African and Caribbean influence. Haigler combines different mediums to achieve the desired effect combining paper/cloth collage, watercolors and acrylic paints.

Cheryl resides in Harlem, New York where she is experiencing the wealth of its renaissance influence. She is passionately pursuing becoming an established artist. Her main challenge is finding time to paint in the studio. However, her love of art and the creative process drives her to paint whenever the opportunity is available.

Artist statement

Art exists to calm the mind and the spirit. It helps us to realize the unimaginable through its creation. Regardless of language or culture everyone can interpret and relate to art.

That is what drives me to create. I create to relate.
